This course is of both theoretical and practical importance. It is designed to make the students aware of the complex organization and systematic nature of language which is the primary means of human communication. This course is intended to clarify ideas about language, and bring learners a better understanding of its nature. The students are exposed to an overview of linguistics at the various levels of description of language. Therefore, the course will familiarize the students with the Origin and Theories of language, and Animals and Human Language. It is further expected to enrich students’ knowledge of some linguistic topics, namely The Sounds of Language, The Sound Patterns of Language, Word Formation, Morphology, Grammar, Syntax, Semantics and Pragmatics.
